NBC won the Friday overnight crowd which is no surprise. They drew an average of 7.51 million viewers, and peaked at 9.07 million viewers. This is a very big number for the NHL.
I’m scanning the web for Canada’s numbers through CBC and RDS. I’m gathering it will total around 4 million viewers.
We should be looking at around 11-12 million viewers on average in total for U.S and Canada.
In contrast, the NBA finals on ABC hit around 11.35 million total viewers in U.S and Canada for their game 4.
The 2008 MLB World Series averaged around 14 million total viewers in the U.S and Canada.

The NBA game actually averaged 16 million viewers in the U.S. alone. This information was available on the same website you linked.
ABC averaged 11.29 for game 4

I was looking at the game 2 numbers before by an accident, which was 10.2 million
That was the overnight number, the final number came out later that day on the same website.

I think they mean total viewers. If you read further down it says 16 million total, not average.
Celtics vs. Lakers is a different story than Magic vs. Lakers.
I think the lower than average numbers can be chalked up to indifference by the casual fan.
Don’t forget Russian viewers. I remember one of the FOX Sports Pittsburgh broadcasters mentioning the numbers coming in from their Russian viewers to be completely amazing (they all wanted to see Mama Malkin again).
cool.

I heard the numbers were really good for the series. That’s great news for NBC (nothin’ but crosby!)
Or NO BETTMAN CONTRACTS
Because NBC does not like anything more than a 1 year deal.
“U.S and Canada”???
Why don’t you arbitrarily add another country like Sweden and make it show how much more popular hockey is than basketball in the US, Canada and Sweden. Next time, they should show how popular the World Cup is the US by showing millions of viewers who watched it in the US and Mexico.
What does Sweden, soccer and Mexico have to do with sports leagues with franchises in America and Canada?
In the 2008-09 season, 20 players (mostly Canadian) of African ancestry are affiliated with the NHL. Almost 40 have retired in the history of the NHL.
Although 53% of the NHL is Canadian 23% are from the states!
Its not a sport just for white people, it’s that the inner city single-parent households can’t afford hockey or they we’re so late to the games that the ice had melted.
Sport for sport, period for quarter, the Stanley Cup Finals this year was FAR MORE ENTERTAINING than nergro round-ball.
Kobe Bryant is a sodomite, and outside of L.A. he’s disliked. When he’s not infiltrating the anus of a 16 year old he’s thinking about teenage butt-sex, and I can see it in his beady stupid African eyes.
It’s no secret, most black males are living double lives. In between playing basketball and killing Korean store owners and before they attend an NAACP rally, they are having affairs with other men. The Washington Posts report above details the consistant rise year after year rise in AIDS in the gay male black community. And not only the rise, but the dramatic increase in that demographic specifically. Our very own Black President, Barack Hussien Obama, is married to a black male.
In short, I feel the NHL is on the come-up, and quite frankly the most entertaining part of the NBA Finals was the riots afterwards, by blackies.
Let me sum this up; the NHL rules the NBA!
