Today the NHL has named the West All-Star reserves and to say some choices are laughable (once again) is an understatement. You know sometimes you really have to shake your head at some of the decisions the league makes and just laugh. If you don’t as a fan, you’ll wind up a very stressed out person or be like me blowing off steam on a blog page.
It seems now the NHL is not only trying to add players from every different team (even when they clearly don’t deserve it), but they are flooding the roster with some American players that don’t deserve it. I honestly believe the league thinks it’s only fair to have American players in the game as well, even if they don’t deserve it. Either that, or they think having more American players will attract a bigger American audience. Both funny.
I’m American myself and all for having American players make it, but if they don’t deserve it, don’t add them, it’s ridiculous, especially when they are washed up. Get the best in there, or get the ones who deserve it. No one in there right mind would rather watch Keith Tkachuk and Mike Modano on the All-Star team over Marian Hossa, Henrik Zetterberg, Ales Hemsky, Mikko Koivu ect..Especially when they didn’t earn the spot, which I’d give to Loui Eriksson and Brad Boyes from those teams. Dustin Brown doesn’t have the credentials to back it up either (13 goals, 13 assists, -7) but he is young, fun to watch and an up and coming star. One is fine, but three is too much. This is an All-Star game, I want to watch the best and most exciting players show off there skills.
Maybe I’m taking this too seriously, but the league really needs a good smack to the head every now and than. Especially when they can dictate the effect of player resumes.
It’s gonna be interesting to see the East Reserves when they release them. We should see those in the next day or two. Will we see Dough Weight and Chris Drury?
